Govt Extends PM Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana Till March 2022

Food Grains, Prime News, National, New Delhi, December 24:- The Centre is supplying 5 kilograms of food grains per person each month free of charge to all individuals covered by Under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Ann Yojana, the National Food Security Act was enacted.


Prime Minister Narendra Modi envisioned the initiative as a food security welfare scheme to provide aid and help minimise the economic impact of Covid-19.

(ANI): New Delhi [India], Nov 24 (ANI): On Wednesday, Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Anurag Thakur said that the government of India has decided to prolong the 'PM Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana' to give free rations till March 2022. "It has been decided to prolong the 'PM Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana' to offer free ration until March 2022," Thakur told the reporters after a Union Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Prime Minister's Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY) is a food security welfare scheme designed to give aid and reduce the economic impact of COVID-19. All recipients covered by the National Food Security Act are provided an additional 5 kg of food grain under PMGKAY. (ANI)


The Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana (PMGKY) has been extended until March 2022. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Monday that the government is implementing the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana to give free grains to nearly 80 million people who have been afflicted by the COVID-19 pandemic, and that the scheme has been extended until March 2022.


"Through the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana, we are providing free grains to approximately 80 million people across the country, ensuring that they do not face food insecurity." The programme has been extended through March 2022.The scheme, which costs over Rs 2,60,000 crore, will provide food for over 80 lakh individuals to prepare at home. Prior to the opening of the winter session, Prime Minister Narendra Modi made the announcement in a media speech.


Earlier this year, the Centre extended the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana (Phase IV) delivery of foodgrain to National Food Security Act (NFSA) participants until November.

The government will deliver 5 kg of food grains per person per month, free of charge, to a total of 81.35 crore beneficiaries under the NFSA (Antyodaya Anna Yojana and Priority Households) programme, which includes Direct Benefit Transfer recipients (DBT).

The Prime Minister advised citizens to remain vigilant in the face of growing fears about a new COVID-19 version known as Omicron.


"During the pandemic's most difficult days, we provided more than 100 crore doses of Covid vaccine. We are now approaching 150 crore doses.The emergence of a new coronavirus strain has made us more vigilant. In light of the new COVID-19 variation, we should all remain vigilant "The Prime Minister stated.


The PM also promised that the administration would address all queries ahead of the winter session.


After the Lok Sabha clears the three 'Farm Laws Repeal Bill 2021,' the Government of India is anticipated to move it in the Rajya Sabha on Monday, the opening day of the winter session of Parliament. (ANI)
